Sustainable Planet has revolutionized protein production by growing protein-rich aquatic plants, water lentils, on non-arable land. These plants use 20 times less water than soybeans but produce 10 times more yield than soybeans per hectare of cultivated land, mitigating the risk of global protein shortages and deforestation. The plant also provides all essential amino acids and has higher nutritional value and protein than soybeans, peas, spirulina or chlorella. With low-cost infrastructure in Africa and the Middle East, it creates jobs for disadvantaged communities, supports smallholder farmers and transforms unusable and non-arable land into plant-based protein resources. The project also supports carbon reduction and Sustainable Planet can generate carbon credits. The company also supports all UN Sustainable Development Goals.
