RTA wins international award, certificate for sustainability, environmental excellence

DUBAI, 29th May, 2024 (WAM) -- Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) won an international award and certificate in sustainability and the environment, as it obtained the certificate in the field of energy and environmental designs (gold category) from the US Green Building Council for the Dubai Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre in Al Barsha, and won the second prize in the Big (Work Environment) category for RTA HQ from SEE Architecture and Interior Design Award 2024, issued by the State of Slovenia, specialised in honouring distinguished architecture and interior design entities, and recognises creative projects worldwide.

RTA has been awarded the global Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certificate from the US Green Building Council for the Dubai Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre in Al Barsha.

This non-profit organisation supports prosperous, healthy, and resilient communities and works to develop the LEED system and encourages the construction of energy-efficient buildings.

Dubai ITS Centre stands out for meeting the highest requirements standards. It is known for its innovative design and sustainability elements, indoor environmental quality, and efficient use of water, energy, and resources.

This certification's importance is closely aligned with sustainability, RTA's strategic goal. Achieving this certification demonstrates RTA's commitment to improving energy performance, reducing energy and water consumption, minimising air and noise pollution, enhancing indoor air quality, and reducing long-term operating and maintenance costs.

The certification also emphasises the use of environmentally friendly and recyclable building materials and careful planning for construction and demolition waste management.

LEED designs were employed in the Dubai ITS Centre through air conditioning and lighting, water supply and drainage system. The architectural and structural designs also incorporated green areas, bicycle spaces, electric car charging stations, and facilities for mass transit.

RTA has also won the 2024 Big SEE Architecture and Interior Design Award in the Work Environment category for RTA HQ. This award recognises excellence in architecture and interior design and highlights innovative projects globally.
